Do it yourself ...

Pyrography is not necessarily an expensive hobby : even for about 100 the basic equipment, with which the first steps are made, can be obtained.

In this pages we will show and explain you the basics about pyrography, and give you some information about the equipment needed to try it by yourself.

Only experience can teach you :

There is only one rule in pyrography : only experience can teach you.

Try it, try it again, day after day, ... and above all, believe that also you can do it !

Before buying your equipment

The same questions is asked over and over : which basic equipment is needed to start. Based on the expierience of François PEETERS, you will find hereafter some recommandations :

Elsewhere in this website is explained that most of the job can be done with 2 basic styluses : a TRIANGLE STYLUS for the drawing, and a FLAT STYLUS for colouring surfaces.

The
electric power of those styluses is provided by a transformer which lowers the voltage from 220Volt to the low voltage (till  max 12 Volt) used by the styluses. The voltage is increased to obtain darker colours and vice versa.

The are many types and brands of such transformers. The one used by François PEETERS is the PYRO R3000, which has 2 outputs, allowing the simultaneous connexion of 2 ttyluses. The output voltage can be changed in four steps (6, 8, 10 and 12 Volt)which offers a wide range of colours.

Sometimes, some drawings require more colours, specially when someone becomes more and more experienced.

In that case, an industrial transformer, with and output voltage that covers the complete range between 0 and 12 V is required. An example of such an transformer (type AL344 S) is showed hereafter. The output voltage is very precise, but ... only ons stylus can be connected at the same time.

P.S. To easily pass from one stylus to another, it can be useful to put some connectors between the transformer and the pens.
